Tuesday's Tunes

Updated: Nov 10, 2022

Hey Hey Hey!

Hey guys! I'm pleased to see that someone is reading this blog! (All two of you)...no no no I'm just kidding. Thank you for being here!

Whether you're a return reader or a first timer, I appreciate you!

I'm certainly not in this for endless readership or money or whatnot.

I'm simply making attempts to find a solid feel for my inner voice and writing!

As you may already know, I'm working on my first full-length novel, in addition to a collection of short works.

Although A Moment in Time will be published in a few months, Bittersweet State of Mind is still quite "in the works".

What better way to improve writing rituals "search for a voice" than with a blog, though?!

Am I right?

While I am still back-and-forth on various topics, I had to make my initial topic about music!

Now, before we move any further, I should tell you that in case you do not already know, I don't really believe in such a thing as "bad music."

If you do, that's totally okay! In fact, most people do!

My personal philosophy, however, is that every song has the correct environment to be enjoyed to perfection. Does that make sense?

For example, I don't think that blasting Dave Burd (AKA Lil Dicky) at a Jason Aldean concert is the greatest way to make friends.

And I would certainly advise against heading into a Taylor Swift show with a boombox to share the new Subtronics album with your fellow concert-goers.

You get my point.

With that being said, I think that there is a right place and a right time for every tune.

Personally, I listen to nearly every genre imaginable from EDM to Country...

House to Pop Punk...

Screamo to Rap...

I won't talk your ear off, but you get the idea.

This also means that I might advise when I'm sharing my thoughts on a 2021 EDM song per-say, you might want to skip past if you're an exclusive '70s rock listener.

Now...let's get to it!

I was so back-and-forth on ideas for this, since music is truly such a broad subject.

I didn't want anything to be biased or specific to one genre or listener/reader.

If I can make one person find one new song to have on loop, I will have done more than what I would've liked to already!

To eliminate bias, I thought that it might be interesting to show you guys what I've been listening to over a large stretch of time.

Keep in mind, I did not know that I'd be doing this today, so I'm actually quite nervous to show you what I've had on repeat since 2015.

Anyways, let's get started!

So...

I found my statistics for ALL TIME most played songs via Spotify.

Let's take a look see...

As of 4/19/2021, here are my most listened to Spotify songs of all time...

⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️

1) Black Butterflies & Déjà Vu by The Maine

Genre: Alternative

What can I say about this song...

There's certainly a reason that it's my #1 all-time Spotify song!

The lyrics connect me and a youthful time in my life that truly speak to me.

If you're a fan of passionate lyrics, up & down storytelling, and lots of drums featuring chill guitar riffs, I would give this song a listen for sure.

This song tells the story of a man who physically loses the ability to speak, when offered the opportunity to tell "The One" that he loves them.

Check these lyrics out:

"I lose my voice when I look at you
Can't make a noise, I'm trying to"

Ugh...I just love it!

It keeps me on the edge of my seat every time.

But let's not stay on one song forever...

2) Where'd U Go by Illenium & Said the Sky

Genre: Electronic

My family and friends will probably laugh at this one because I've listened to this song a minimum of once a day ever since I was in college.

They tend to get awfully sick of it! How could I not, though?

After all, Illenium is my favorite artist of all-time and this song hits me right in the gut in all types of ways.

Although the only lyrics throughout this entire song are solely "Where'd you go?", all of my emotions are continuously evoked in some impossible way.

This ear-popping piece of music somehow makes me want to party at the same time that it makes me want to smile, sit still, and reminisce.

I want to cry like an infant while eager to dance all over the place.

How could I not adore a song like that?!

If you like EDM, Trance, House or any type of dance music in general, I'd definitely give this one a listen.

If you ever want to see me lose all my emotions at the next post-COVID party, play this on the aux and I guarantee you I'll be the first one on the dance floor.

3) Homer Simpson by Doug the Thug & Osb Reese

Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

Let me just start by telling you all that this is a rap song.

Being so, the language is sometimes explicit!

That having been said, if you don't like rap, I'd advise against listening to this one.

However, if you do enjoy hip-hop, how about supporting two of my college friends Doug and Maurice?

Supporting friends and their artistic endeavors is something that I take very seriously.

A great number of my friends throughout my collegiate years pursued various forms of the arts and two of them decided to collaborate on this particular tune together.

I couldn't be more proud of them!

This song always makes me feel as if someone is grabbing me and pulling me into the party, one where every friend is patiently waiting and ready for a good time.

Should you decide you'd like an autograph after hearing to this one, I might be able to snag one for you.

⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️

4) Under Pressure by Queen & David Bowie

Genre: Rock

I'm not sure how much I can say about this song that hasn't already been said.

If you haven't heard this tune before, I'm afraid that you may be Steve Rogers and require some serious catching up to do after being frozen on ice for a lifetime.

All jokes aside, Under Pressure is pure gold and just so happens to be my #1 go-to happy song.

How could you not be happy listening to these rock legends riff off of one another?

⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️

⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️

5) Feel Free by RL Grime

Genre: Electronic

I'll be honest with you on this one, if you don't enjoy Electronic Dance music of any kind, you're more than likely not going to prefer this tune all too much.

It's very bass heavy and thus, why I like it so much!

This is one of my "Pregame" songs forever pumping for an upcoming get together.

There are no lyrics, but there is one heck of a breakdown!

After snagging myself a handy-dandy subwoofer in my new car, this song quickly became a must before any party.

Make sure to turn this one up!

6) It's Hard to Be Religious When Certain People Are Never Incinerated By Lightning by Mayday Parade

Genre: Rock

You might want to get your emo hats out for this one.

As you can tell by the title, this song has a hint of resentment behind it.

But I promise if you enjoy rock or alternative, this one warrants your brief attention!

This Mayday song teleports me to its initial surprise release in 2018 and is pure magic to my ears.

Unless, of course, I'm having a super sunny and happy day.

Check out a few of these lyrics:

"It seems that everything I love is so far away
There used to be many things that I could hold and touch
And grab onto in stormy weather
These days, we have each other"

As you can see, by no means is this a happy song...but if you are feeling a little "in the feels", go ahead and give this one a listen!

7) Something About You by State Champs

Genre: Rock/Pop Punk

Now we are getting to a more chill tune, still with some quality lyrics!

One of State Champs' more laid back songs dives into the story of a young man one year after "the one" leaves yet he is still struggling to deal with the past.

Here's the irresistible chorus:

"Memories are coming down on me
I don’t want to believe that there’s an end to the dream
But I just know that there’s something about you"

I think that we've all been in that stage of life, at some point, where we think we've found "the one" but it doesn't end up working out.

This song has the potential to place us all in a different time, a younger time, where we reminisce of how we were able to move on with a sense of pride and gratitude!

If this one makes it through to your headphones, give yourself a pat on the back!

Overall, this song is always a good sing-along song for me to relax to.

Maybe you'll enjoy it too?

⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️

8) Mr. Brightside by The Killers

Genre: Rock

How much do I have to say about Mr. Brightside?

It's Mr. freakin' Brightside!!

If you're not a fan of this one...I'm not sure how I feel about you...

No, I'm obviously just joshing around.

But seriously, this is a party favorite (even though the lyrics are ironically sad).

Go ahead and listen to this one, just for a nice throwback!

⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️

9) Feeling This by blink-182

Genre: Rock

Ugh this song is flat-out unskippable for me.

I always feel compelled to turn it up and sing both Tom Delonge's and Mark Hoppus's verses without taking a single breath to relax.

Let's take a dive into the lyrics in case you've never heard this one...

"Look to the past and remember and smile
Maybe tonight I can breathe for awhile
I'm not in the scene I think I'm falling asleep
But then all that it means is I'll always be dreaming of you"

I find these lyrics to be super powerful in a pop-punky sort of way.

Overall, this is blink-182 off of the blink-182 self-titled album...how could you go wrong?!

Warning though, this one is explicit, so maybe don't play it around the "youths".

10) Piece of Your Heart by Mayday Parade

Genre: Rock

I'm gonna have to finish you guys off with a slight tug at your heart strings.

Remember that inevitable breakup that we all had (at some point) that hurt a bit more than all of the others?

This song is about that...check these lyrics out:

"You are the brightest I've seen
You are the best side of me
And just for when we're apart
I've got a piece of your heart"

What more is there to say?!

Cue the waterworks!

This melody is the definition of sweet and is guaranteed to make even the most heartless beings feel something.

If your day is a little too happy, give this song a listen and I bet it'll bring you to more of a level head!

⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️

⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️

Well, that's it!

Those are apparently my top 10 songs of all time on Spotify! Who knew?

As you can see, my spectrum is pretty much all over the place.
